On 26 September, schools across the UK celebrated European Day of Languages, an opportunity to celebrate linguistic diversity, promote language learning and develop a greater understanding of different cultures. 

This year’s theme, ‘Languages unite!’, highlighted the important role languages play in bringing people together and building bridges between different cultures and backgrounds. 

Our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Department marked the occasion with a range of exciting activities and competitions, while staff across the school joined in the celebrations by wearing stickers featuring greetings from around the world. 

A Year 7 Treasure Hunt 

Year 7 pupils took part in a school-wide treasure hunt, searching for staff members to collect as many different ways of saying “hello” as possible in languages from around the world. 

We received a record-breaking number of entries this year, with many pupils taking their enthusiasm even further by practising their new vocabulary throughout the day. A fantastic effort from our Year 7 pupils – bravo! 

International MasterChef 

Meanwhile, pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 showcased their culinary creativity in our international MasterChef competition. 

Pupils were challenged to bake a cake or prepare a dish representing a country of their choice, and the standard of entries was truly exceptional. From delicate French iced cakes and traditional Italian biscotti to authentic Portuguese tarts, pupils demonstrated not only impressive culinary skills but also a wonderful appreciation of different cultures. 

One particularly imaginative entry was an Eiffel Tower made entirely from Bourbon biscuits! 

The creativity, effort and enthusiasm shown by our pupils were truly inspiring and helped make this year’s European Day of Languages celebrations our most successful yet.

At Newbridge School, we are proud to be one of only a small number of secondary schools across Wales to run the Food and Fun Summer Programme.

The programme provided our learners with a fantastic combination of hands-on activities, energetic games and opportunities to learn more about healthy living.

One of the highlights of the week was building rocket cars. Learners worked together to design, create and then race their own cars, putting their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test.

There was plenty of opportunity to stay active too, with pupils taking part in a range of activities including dodgeball, table tennis and yoga. The varied programme allowed everyone to get involved and enjoy physical activity in ways that suited their different interests and confidence levels.

Alongside all the fun and activities, learners also explored the importance of healthy eating, discovering how making positive food choices can support energy levels, concentration and overall wellbeing.

Each day was rounded off with a warm, freshly prepared meal, provided by our fantastic canteen team.

It was a brilliant week filled with fun, learning, teamwork and healthy choices, helping our learners develop positive habits that can support their health and wellbeing well into the future.

On Thursday 2nd July, our Year 11 pupils celebrated the end of their time at Newbridge School in style at their fantastic Prom at The Parkgate Hotel & Spa.

Our pupils looked absolutely amazing as they arrived in a wonderful array of stunning gowns and smart suits, ready for a special evening of celebration.

The evening began with a delicious two-course meal, giving everyone the opportunity to relax, catch up with friends and celebrate their achievements together.

As the evening continued, the dance floor was certainly put to good use, with pupils dancing the night away and enjoying the music. There was also plenty of fun to be had in the 360° photo booth, capturing some unforgettable memories from the evening.

It was a wonderful celebration filled with laughter, music, friendship and plenty of special moments — a fitting way to mark the end of an important chapter in our pupils' lives.

A huge well done to all of our Year 11 pupils. We are incredibly proud of you and wish you every success and happiness as you move on to the next chapter of your journeys.

The aims of the visit were to encourage pupils to develop new friendships with their classmates, build positive working relationships with their form tutors and strengthen their teamwork skills.

Year 7 were absolutely brilliant! They embraced every activity with enthusiasm, worked really well together and demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout the trip. We are incredibly proud of them. Da iawn, Blwyddyn Saith!

We are delighted to celebrate another excellent year of results at Key Stage 4 with our pupils achieving some fantastic outcomes.

28% of pupils achieved five or more A*/A grades while 80% achieved five or more C grades or better.

Across the year group, pupils were awarded an impressive 63 A*/A grades and 183 C+ grades, reflecting the hard work, commitment and determination shown by our pupils throughout their time at Key Stage 4.

We would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 pupils on their achievements and thank them for the effort they have put into their studies. We would also like to recognise the dedication and hard work of our staff whose support and commitment have played an important part in helping pupils achieve these results.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 pupils and wish them every success as they take their next steps into further education, training or employment.
